A boutonniere is a small flower association worn on the lapel of a swimsuit jacket or tuxedo. Boutonnieres are sometimes worn by males at formal occasions, equivalent to weddings, proms, and funerals. They can be worn by girls, though that is much less widespread. Boutonnieres are often made with a single flower or a small cluster of flowers, and they’re usually adorned with greenery or ribbon.
The custom of carrying boutonnieres dates again to the sixteenth century. At the moment, males would put on a single flower of their lapel to indicate that they had been in love. Over time, the custom of carrying boutonnieres advanced, and so they turned a preferred accent for formal occasions. At the moment, boutonnieres are nonetheless worn as an indication of favor and class.
